A heavier or less experienced rider might want to consider a 3/4" or 1" insert. I don't recommend gel pads of any sort, since they're heavy, don't breathe, and they can create so much heat that they can scald a horse's back. If you're running into pressure points, I'd strongly recommend looking into saddle fit rather than corrective pads; if you need to find someone in your area, please let me know where you're located, and I'll see if I can find someone.saddlefitterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18340539191435086835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8315761897298237483.post-45741056729775487922011-08-16T17:24:50.668-04:002011-08-16T17:24:50.668-04:00Hi. I'm currently using the Mattes and I'm finding they are not giving me enough pressure point relief. I tried an Impact Gel pad and got a great even sweat pattern for a change, but not sure if it really distributed the weight better, or if it just caused more sweating due to heat. What do the endurance riders like to use? Note that I am in a regular treed saddle, not a treeless. I have a Thinline comfort cotton pad on the way and curious to try it out. The main problem I have is pressure under the stirrup bar area. Thanks!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8315761897298237483.post-78942665437171859022011-01-10T13:06:36.481-05:002011-01-10T13:06:36.481-05:00Anon. "Wide" is open to interpretation, and your horse may need a hoop tree - or just a very wide standard tree. I can, however, tell you some brands that probably won't work: Stubben and Courbette (both have very long tree points and aren't very generous in width), Wintec (CAIR panels can be hold heat over long rides and scald the back) and Crosby. Again, if you can send a template and photos, I'd be happy to offer what input I can.saddlefitterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18340539191435086835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8315761897298237483.post-14998977744353918192011-01-08T01:51:34.773-05:002011-01-08T01:51:34.773-05:00Me again. I was suggested to use an endurance saddle after a 30 mile ride on him. I'd email a pic but I dont have any that would help.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8315761897298237483.post-26802575025980788262011-01-07T12:48:21.743-05:002011-01-07T12:48:21.743-05:00seera, most of the UK-made saddles can be modified...seera, most of the UK-made saddles can be modified a great deal to accommodate the needs of both horse and rider. Two that we deal with a lot are Black Country (http://www.blackcountrysaddles.com/) and Frank Baines (http://www.frankbaines.com/page.asp?id=6), and I recommend both highly. You can also look into Albion, Ideal, Jeffries and Hastilow, just to name a few.saddlefitterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18340539191435086835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8315761897298237483.post-3774799262354796932011-01-07T12:41:24.786-05:002011-01-07T12:41:24.786-05:00Anonymous II, I can only offer up the same advice ...Anonymous II, I can only offer up the same advice I gave the original Anonymous - work with a good fitter. The saddle has to work for both horse and rider, so without knowing whether your paint is a stock horse type, an Appendix, Tb, Wb or ___ type, and without seeing at least a photo and a back template, I'm sorry to say that I can't offer any meaningful input.saddlefitterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18340539191435086835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8315761897298237483.post-77183935492399473632011-01-05T23:47:35.781-05:002011-01-05T23:47:35.781-05:00Looking 4 a good endurance saddle for may paint an...Looking 4 a good endurance saddle for may paint any specific ceiteria that I should follow or should I just go with what's comfortable for me? Without knowing what sort of saddle you're looking for or what sort of horse you're trying to fit, I'm afraid that meaningful recommendations are impossible to make.
